Nicaolaos and Basil Tzannes 1977 267pp A.S.Barnes
ISBN:049801497
Note also published under the title 'Backgammon Games and Struggles'
Originally published during the 1970's backgammon boom, and republished for
the new milliennium. The authors claimed to have over 30 years experience in the
Backgammon Game and also wrote another book titled 'How Good Are You at
Backgammon?'.
Here's a brief overview.
Approx 50 pages are devoted
to regular backgammon and a single page on the doubling cube. 70 pages
dedicated to Plakoto including recommended initial moves with some more advanced
strategy and an annotated sample game.
75 pages dedicated to Moultezim same
format as in Plakoto but with 3 annotated games. A brief explanation of the
game of Gioul. The usual probability tables and glossary. Basically the
book is aimed at the beginners market and the advice on strategy and tactics is
outdated. The book would be of primary interest to collectors or those who wish
to learn the Greek variants Plakoto and Moultezim.

From the Publisher Backgammon is experiencing a revival, rapidly becoming
one of the most popular table games in the world--Internet included. But it's
not just a game; it is an obsession. In some countries of southern Europe and
the Middle East, it is a way of life. A typical game of backgammon lasts 6-8
minutes if it is "Hit" or Gioul, and double that if it is Plakoto or Moultezim.
These are the fastest, most absorbing minutes in a player's lifetime. The game
moves in lightning speed and requires total concentration. The mixture of chance
and skill are perfectly balanced in "Hit"--the other games leaning heavier on
skill. There is hardly a moment of boredom when you play Backgammon. Even when
the game seems hopelessly lost, there is still a finite probability of a
turnaround. The suspense is always there, the tension is never ending. What more
would you want for an evening of...relaxation?
New Exciting Games on the Backgammon Board I bought this book on an impulse
and found it rewarding. The two new games the authors describe in detail
(Plakoto and Moultezim) are more complex and exciting than 'regular' backgammon
played in the US. The book covers normal backgammon as well, adequately, but not
as comprehensively as some other books do. But if you want some new challenges,
this is it.

I play backgammon with my co-workers during noon. The games were getting
boring, till I read this Book, which introduced me to two new games, Plakoto and
Moultezim. They are very exciting, and skill plays a bigger role than in regular
Backgammon (or Hit or Portes, as the authors call it). All we play now is
Plakoto and Moultezim. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY
